Thread Rolling Machines

Thread rolling forms the thread on a fastener blank by pressing it between dies, rather than cutting it. Cinco Industries supplies two rolling lines: Saspi flat die thread rolling machines, with pointing, stud-selector, washer-assembly and form rolling variants, and Dong Il 2-die, 3-die and counter-flow rolling machines, with dies and tooling.

Flat die or cylindrical die thread rolling?

The two rolling lines Cinco supplies use different methods, so the choice usually starts with the part.

• Flat die thread rolling (Saspi): the blank is rolled between flat dies. The GV series covers thread diameters from 2 mm up to 45 mm, with options for hot rolling, in-line pointing, stud selection and washer assembly. The FR series is a long stroke form rolling machine for complex profiles.
• Cylindrical die thread rolling (Dong Il): the part is rolled between two or three round dies. The 2-die machines suit general screws, small precise screws, worm screws, serrations, knurling and burnishing, up to a 130 mm outside diameter on the 60-ton model and larger on the 80- and 100-ton models. The 3-die machines suit hollow and elbow-type parts. Dong Il counter-flow machines roll splined parts and gear-type shafts.

For a standard threaded fastener, start with flat die. For larger parts, hollow parts, or forms other than a standard thread, such as worm screws, serrations or knurling, start with cylindrical. Cinco also supplies dies and tooling for the Dong Il machines.
